Energy Saver Pro
I'm
extremely busy. Is Energy Saver Pro easy to implement and maintain?
Energy Saver Pro is surprisingly easy to install and setup on the
network's Domain Controller. Simply follow the instructions of the
setup wizard and Energy Saver Pro will do the rest. Because Energy
Saver Pro is integrated with the Active Directory, assigning power
settings for the first time over a large network takes only minutes.
EDU
Business Solutions is a software company that is built on the foundation
of excellent customer support. With the use of web conferencing
and support software, EDU technicians can provide immediate remote
support with the highest efficiency.
How
much can I save by implementing Energy Saver Pro?
A monitor uses roughly 60 to 90 Watts when active but only 2 to
5 Watts when in a low-power sleep mode. According to the Energy
Star Website, implementing proper monitor power settings on 1,000
computers can save an organization $17,000 per year at a rate of
8.5 cents per kWh. An organization with 5,000 PC's that is paying
a more realistic 12 cents per kWh can save $120,000 per year (or
$10,000 per month).
These
calculations are from monitor savings alone and do not even consider
the savings realized by implementing proper CPU power settings.
If PC's are not being shut down nightly and on the weekends, CPU
savings could possibly surpass monitor savings.
How
will I know if implementing Energy Saver Pro has reduced my energy
costs?
Of course, your utility bill will be the ultimate indicator. But
since energy consumption often varies widely from month to month
for large organizations, another method of results measurement is
provided.
Aside
from controlling power settings, Energy Saver Pro is also a diagnostic
tool to measure on-time of CPU's, disks and monitors across your
network. By running Energy Saver Pro prior to adjusting your network
power settings, you can discover a baseline that represents power
consumption prior to implementation. Each month after implementation
you will be able to report on savings against the baseline. Energy
Saver Pro has built-in cost calculations that provide accurate estimates
based upon your specific equipment types and energy rates.
Will
my monitors and CPU's last longer with power settings in place?
Proper power settings will promote a longer and more reliable life
for the monitors and CPU's. There has long been a debate as to whether
it is better for a PC's disk drive to remain on constantly or to
power down each evening. Most overlook the fact that wear and tear
on the other components within a PC can be even more detrimental
to PC lifespan. CPU fans, for example, which are often the first
PC component to fail, serve a critical cooling function. A failed
CPU fan is undetectable by the average user until the PC eventually
begins overheating and shuts itself down, potentially causing fatal
damage to the mother board and any data resident on the hard drive.
Powered
down equipment generates less heat, collects less dust and reduces
mechanical stress on the unit. Premature CPU replacement and overhaul
can be avoided by implementing nightly shut down and reducing the
total CPU on-time.
I
can edit my monitor and CPU settings manually. Why do I need Energy
Saver Pro?
Many PC's and monitors come from the manufacturer with power settings
turned off by default. In many cases, users adjust or disable individual
power settings according to their personal preferences rather than
the organization's preferences. With hundreds or thousands of PC's,
sending an IT staff member periodically to visit each workstation
simply to adjust the power settings is impractical. Company wide
memos often fall on deaf ears. Users may be unaware or unconcerned
about the costs of excessive energy consumption. They may not have
the skills or inclination to learn how to navigate to the Windows
power settings profile and make the proper changes. (A training
session for the entire organization probably wouldn't be very well
received.) Or users may fear that adjusting workstation power settings
will cause them inconvenience or somehow interrupt their workflow.
Even the best manual processes leave room for generous savings through
implementation of Energy Saver Pro.
The
task of supporting a network of hundreds or even thousands of PC's
is so demanding that Information Technology departments are almost
always over-worked and under-staffed. Even as important as it is
to reduce energy costs, there are often mission critical support
issues that demand the time of IT staff. Because Energy Saver Pro
is integrated with the Active Directory, managing power settings
over a large network takes only minutes and ensures optimum energy
savings.
How
much does Energy Saver Pro cost?
Energy Saver Pro is priced on a per seat basis so it makes financial
sense for organizations of all sizes. Our corporate sales goal is
three-fold:
- Help
our customers gain a measurable Return on Investment within 4
months.
-
Work with our customers to allow them to pay for the Energy Saver
Pro solution from savings that they have already realized through
the implementation of the solution.
-
Work with State Public Utilities Commissions and energy companies
nationwide to assist customers to qualify for Rebates and Incentives.
Large
organizations can realize net actual savings well into the hundreds
of thousands of dollars per year. Please

Do
screen savers conserve energy?
Screen savers generally do not conserve energy. Screen savers were
originally developed to prevent the permanent etching of a pattern
on older monochrome monitors by blanking out the screen or constantly
moving the image. Modern monitors do not have the same vulnerability
so screen savers have come to serve an exclusively aesthetic function.
